My specially designed Pinayironmom shirt

I wanted to wear a shirt with the Philippine flag for my Marine Corps Marathon. So, my sister recommended Jo Tripon to do the rush job of designing one in a day as I only had a day left to have it made. Unfortunately I was not able to check on the actual sizes of jersey manufacturer Jersey Fits All and they underestimated my size. Jenny, the incharge thought i was thinner haha! I may not be able to wear it for the actual run but I will wear this at the celebration in the VIP tent right after I cross that finish line!

Is it wise to run a marathon on your off season?

The same month last year, I ran my first marathon. My husband asked me a few months earlier if I wanted to do the Chicago marathon which he will book thru Marathon Tours for a sure slot. I just said okay… okay … My mind was actually somewhere in the middle of work or domestic duties and then I just realized I got a slot for a marathon! But how about the training? Is it wise to do a marathon during the off season?

Have you been dreaming of running a marathon?

Have you been dreaming of running a marathon?

If you were to do a 70.3 race either in July and August, it is best to try a marathon sometime in October! This is the perfect time when one has built the strength for running a 21k distance plus there are enough weeks left to recover from the 70.3. Then there’s a considerable time to build miles towards the 32k longest run three weeks before tapering to marathon day! However, as I am just an average runner, I see training for a marathon harder than training for a 70.3. I have never experienced pains and slight injuries when I train for a triathlon. Marathon training requires all the strength of ones body especially the core! FOCUS on form in running which often fails me is the most important!

Well what will one do after a 70.3 race?

On October 27, I will try my best to finish the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. My hamstring injury from Cobra has not fully recovered therefore I do not expect to beat my time last year. The course this time too is hilly, compared to Chicagos pancake flat run course.

Please cheer for me, better yet, please pray for me! Philippines I represent! 🙂

Cobra Ironman 70.3 a family racecation

Two weeks from now, Cobra Ironman 2014 will be opening it’s registration. An A race for most, Cobra’s slots is predicted to be filled up faster than last years four day registration. Who knows, it could be a few hours this time?!

So, are you deciding – to join or not, to join or not (spoken like – he loves me, he loves me not) and you think about this while doing your laps (to join or not, to join or not), your runs, and your rides and of course while at work! Then you start dreaming about it!

Would be participants I speak to consider 4 major aspects for joining – family, time, cost and the capability to finish. But among all, family is the most important consideration as they will be there to witness your ups and downs from training, they may be neglected of your time too!  But it is them who will ease your fatigue and pain to your 70.3 dream.

This is the last year Cobra Ironman 70.3 will be held in Mactan, Cebu known as a coral island where it is best to go snorkeling and jet skiing. Shangri-la Mactan, the official race venue is a marine sanctuary too which gave me and my family a grand time when we conquered its waters. So why not make 2014 Cobra a racecation for you and the family?

Here are some photos of Cobra 70.3 2013 that will surely entice you to make next years cobra a family event!

Cobra Ironman 2013 – are we human or are we dancer?

It was raining cats and dogs the night before Cobra Ironman held its race for the second time in the supposedly “sunny” Cebu.  A tropical depression in the Southern part of Mindanao affected the whole archipelago including the Western part of Luzon, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms through out the Cobra Ironman weekend.  The weather was a major factor that affected the performance of the participants in claiming the beautifully designed medal by Mr. Kenneth Cobonpue. But the show.. errr… the race must go on to decide as “The Killers” say it … are we human or are we dancer?
